What is an "Only in Japan" moment? [A Quora Post]

"My husband recently joined Tokyo Institute of Technology for his Postdoc. He usually gets sick during travelling and unfortunately, he was really sick before his journey to Tokyo. He, along with his friend, left on a Wednesday from India and reached Tokyo the next day (Thursday evening). I received last update from him before boarding his connecting flight. He said he was feeling fine and nothing to worry. I was tracking his flight and it had arrived safely in Tokyo on time.

I didn’t receive any call from him till Friday evening. I couldn’t reach him on mobile. I was freaking out. I was just reassuring myself that he is Japan and with his friend, so he should be fine. Before he left, he had informed me that his supervisor was picking him from the airport and they were having dinner with the research group on Friday evening. Since I didn’t get any update from him after reaching Tokyo, I sent an email to his supervisor inquiring if my husband and his friend had arrived safely.

His supervisor (a Japanese) replied immediately explaining that my husband was really sick from the journey and they had to take him to the hospital soon after his arrival! The supervisor explained that the accommodation where my husband is staying doesn’t have an internet connection and the roaming pack was not activated for some reason. Supervisor also mentioned that he can’t get new SIM until some initial verification process which might take a couple of days. He asked me to relax and promised to take care of my husband.

Over the weekend he kept me updated about my husband’s health over email. He had taken my husband to the biggest hospital in that region, got all medical tests done, got him food and medicines, and took complete care of him till he recovered. Also, my husband’s friend was very supportive during this time.

I can’t thank enough the supervisor for being so kind and caring. Usually sending emails after working hours is regarded as an offence, while this supervisor took complete care of his student over the weekend and was very kind to update his family. I am so glad that my husband is in safe hands!

He suffered from infancy but it took his parents 10 years to detect dyspraxia

He suffered from infancy but it took his parents 10 years to detect dyspraxia - a brain disorder that often made his limbs shiver making it impossible to eat noodles or go for long walks. And when his teacher asked them to send him to a "special" school after he failed a test in his 6th, 'Taare Zameen Par' had indeed arrived! By then, the boy had found a steady friend in his PC. At 8, he had mastered 'Age of Empires' and at 11, he was a gaming pro and dabbled with coding. At 15, his goal was to build something that would help parents of kids like him to detect their disorders very early. He researched and worked relentlessly for 3 years. In 2015, the 18-year-old launched 'My Child' - a free Android app. It takes just 45 seconds to know if a child is suffering from a brain, nerve, speech or physical disorder. It can correctly trace and track disorders even in babies of 11-24 months. The app's been downloaded 12000 times by users in 140 countries....

If the most important servers of Google are bombed, will it destroy its empire? [A Quora Post]

A big company like Google isn't made up of servers. Google runs because of image. Google has become the worlds biggest search engine because of the image of they have formed. Let's say you bombed Google’s servers (pictured). Google is a 500 billion dollar company. In a matter of days, Google would be up and running using another company's servers. In weeks, Google would have restored their own servers. Secondly, (relating to image), if Google went down for a day or two, people would not automatically switch to another search engine. To billions of people, Google has become the default. Bing, DuckDuckGo, and others barely exist for billions of people worldwide. In the end, losing Google for a short while would be a hard blow but Google's image would save the company once it was up and running again. More@ https://www.technapping.com Source : Quora
